New member class

New Members Class on Sunday, Aug. 13, 20, and 27, 10 a.m. in the fellowship hall conference room. If you are interested in becoming an Active Member (full-time) or an Affiliate Member (part-time), this three week membership class is a great way to learn about Presbyterian History, Theology, and Government. Pastor Kathy will be leading the classes with lots of time for questions and discussion. If you are unable to attend the membership class, please contact Pastor Kathy and she can meet with you individually (828-260-2512). Note: When you become an Active Member, Crossnore Presbyterian Church will be your home congregation; when you become an Affiliate Member, you will remain a full-time member at your home church and will be part of our church family when you are in the mountains.

Helping local school

We finished the year with the largest after-school program in the county. We sponsored the same number of students this year. We did add 2 students when DSS dropped those two because DSS funds ran out. Our students who were attending due to our help either passed their EOG's or made growth. I can also break down what we have used this summer. We sponsored ten students to attend Avery YO for the WOW Program. They were able to attend summer enrichment and then attend the WOW Program. All of these students were need based or with single parent or educational needs. We sponsored one student to attend the YMCA Summer program for 3 days a week. This child is being raised by her grandparents through DSS custody. The 3rd grade math tutor we had in place that we used tutor money for was a great success; 83% of our 3rd grade students passed the end of grade math exam for the State.

Our next “Church Family Dinner Out” will be held on Tuesday, August 22 at 5:30 p.m. at Puerto Nuevo in Banner Elk. Please notice we have changed to Tuesday night from Thursday. We are hoping that it will be a little less crowded and parking will be easier if we don’t show up on “Oyster night”.

The Annual Church Picnic will be held on Tuesday, August 29, 5-7 p.m., at the Point in Land Harbor. We need people to grill the hamburgers and hot dogs. Please let Tommie Tennant know if you are a griller!! Please bring a side dish, salad or dessert. Pastor Kathy will finish the evening with a flaming finale!
